Jose Carlos Menjivar

May 27, 1959 — January 21, 2024

Carlos Menjivar passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the age of 64 years.

Born in San Salvador El Salvador, the fifth of nine children Carlos brought light into every room he ever stepped foot in. Although shy in his childhood and adolescence he reveled in every opportunity to play soccer and enjoyed the company of his siblings and friends. At the age of 18 he met Elsa Marina Amaya and their love flourished. They married and soon welcomed their first daughter followed by their 5 other children spanning 10 years.

Family was core to who Carlos was and he spent his life as an exemplar husband, father, son, and brother. Carlos was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in childhood. His membership in the church was paramount in his development as a dedicated loyal servant of Jesus Christ. Carlos spent his entire adult life serving God by loving his neighbour in small and large ways. Carlos possessed an unshakable faith in Jesus Christ which aided him in his last days.

Having immigrated to Canada in 1991 Carlos and Elsa opened many doors for their children and grandchildren. Canada became home and Carlos took full advantage of the natural beauty of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains by spending summers camping, hiking, and exploring with friends and family.

Determination and hardwork were on full display when as an adult Carlos returned to SAIT and balanced his full-time job, his family, and church responsibilities, to graduate as a Journeyman Welder.

Carlos loved deeply, cared honestly, served dutifully, and left all who ever had the pleasure of knowing him with the clear understanding that a life well lived, is a life full of love. We love you, Dad!

Carlos will be forever loved and remembered by his wife of 44 years, Elsa Menjivar of Bonnyville, AB; children: Claudia (Randy) Taylor of Lehi, Utah, USA, Evelyn Rojas of Courtenay, BC, Alex Rojas of Vancouver, BC, Ingrid (Sean) Seitz of Bonnyville, Alberta, Carlos Rojas (Nina Prce) of Podstrana, Croatia, Priscila (David) Gurney of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA; grandchildren: Jacob, Anna, Brynn Taylor of Lehi, Utah, Mateo, Luca, Vanesa Palmer of Courtenay, BC, Preston, Oakland Seitz of Bonnyville, AB; brothers and sisters: Victor Menjivar, Marta Lilian (Gilberto) Claros, Rosa Mirian Menjivar, Esperanza (Ernesto) Alvarez, Rene (Angela) Menjivar, Hector (Lilian) Menjivar, Alonzo (Carolina) Menjivar, all of Calgary, Alberta.
