Johann Sauter

October 15, 1916 — July 22, 2011

It is with great sadness, and a sigh of relief, that John’s family announces his passing at the age of 94 years. John is survived by his truly devoted wife of 56 years, Ingeborg, and sons John Peter (Donna Shannon), Walter (Sandra) and daughter Evelyn Delaney (Kevin). John is also survived by six grandchildren; Dustin (Claire) Sauter, Ashley Sauter, Simon Sauter, Katie Tetz, Cody Tetz and Danielle Delaney. John’s life, in his own words, was truly ‘unreal’. John was born in Habacht-Meckenbeuren in 1916, the oldest of three boys. At age 14 years, he followed his father into the Gipser-handwerk (plastering) trade. He married Inge on April 12, 1955 and they immigrated to Canada (Calgary) that summer. Soon after he started his own stucco business and was well known for his hard work and craftsmanship. In 1967 he found his oasis with his first visit to Shuswap Lake. In 1971 John & Inge purchased their property in Eagle Bay and John began designing and building their summer home. John was fortunate to spend more than 25 years of retirement among his trees and enjoying the view. At Dad’s request, there will be no funeral services. A family gathering will be held at Shuswap Lake to share ‘Hans’ stories. John’s family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bethany Calgary, especially Level 4, Heartland, for the care and attention provided to John and our family. You truly are amazing! In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Bethany Care Society (1001 – 17th Street, Calgary, AB T2N 2E5) or the Alzheimers Association (10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 4K1). Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca.
