Joan (Nee Rose) Pierson
November 24, 1932 — August 20, 2019
Joan Pierson passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the age of 86 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years Chesley Pierson; children Val Dean (Brenda) Pierson, of Calgary, AB, Rose Lynn (Mayne) Root, of Chestermere, AB; Michele (Mike) Merrill, of Queen Creek, AZ, Julie (Mervin) Orr of Lethbridge, AB, Michael (Kathleen) Pierson of Calgary, AB, Alice (Gary) Wheeler, of Aurora, CO, and Barbara (Bruce) Humphreys, of Calgary, AB; 41 grandchildren; 76 great grandchildren; and all those she mothered and provided a place to call home. She was predeceased by her parents Archie & Menah Rose, brother Jerry Rose and grandson Nigel Scott.
Joan was born in Tremonton, Utah and raised on the family ranch (The Rose Ranch) in Snowville, UT. When her brother returned from serving a mission in England, he introduced her to one of his companions from Canada, Chesley Pierson and they were married shortly thereafter and made Calgary their home. They were blessed with seven children. Joan was busy raising their children but always found time to serve others, which was an important part of her life. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings. In addition, Joan and Ches served two missions for the church, first in Oakland, CA and then in the London England Temple. After many years of Ches working in funeral service, they along with their children started the family business, Pierson’s Funeral Service, which continued their legacy of serving others. Joan loved music, sewing and quilting. She developed these talents throughout her life and shared them regularly. Joan lived a life full of service and was steadfast in her faith and her love for family.
A Visitation will be held for Joan at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Calgary Stake Centre (2021 – 17 Avenue SW, Calgary) on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 7:00-8:30 pm. A Funeral Service will then be held at the same location on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 am, with visitation from 9:30-10:45 am. Interment will follow at Queens Park Cemetery.
