Joan Christine Blaquiere

Joan Christine Blaquiere, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 89 years.

Joan’s remarkable life began in Rangoon, Burma where she was born on May 3, 1937. Having lost both parents at an early age she moved to India and attended St. Thomas Girls Boarding School in Kiddapore. Joan set off to England with her sisters and married the love of her life Donald Ivor Blaquiere. Together they immigrated to Canada where they built a beautiful life founded on love and mutual devotion.

Joan was the proud matriarch of her family and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald. She was a devoted mother to Karen (Alan) Olafson and Michelle (David) Borrows; cherished grandmother of Rachel Halliwell, Ethan Halliwell and Nikolaus “Niko” Olafson; beloved sister to Georgina Langton; and sister-in-law, Margaret Langton; dearly loved by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Meaghan McMaster-Blaquiere; brothers, Trevor Langton, George Langton; sister, Joyce (Dennis) Turner; brother-in-law, Ozzie Gonsalves.

A special place in Joan’s heart belonged to her niece, Denise Turner, who absolutely adored her. Their beautiful relationship was filled with an abundance of love, kindness, and unwavering mutual support.

Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we take comfort in knowing that Joan’s journey has brought her to a place of eternal rest, beautifully reunited with Donald and Meaghan.

She will be missed beyond words, but her gentle light will never fade from our hearts.
