Following a life incredibly well lived and having endured to the end, we celebrate the wonderful life of our beloved Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister and Aunt who went very peacefully to her heavenly home on March 3, 2026, at the age of 91.
Jo-Anne was born on July 21, 1934, in Lethbridge, Alberta, the 5th of six children. Mom is survived by her Sister Lydean Klovansky and her four children along with 21 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. Mom was pre-deceased by her parents Clifford M. Peterson and Fauntella (Russell) Peterson, her eternal companion Lawrence Addison (Sham) Stevens, her Sisters, Yvonne (Dee) and Colleen (Stan), her Brothers, Cliff Jr. (Lois) and Kay (Pat), her grandson Tyson, her great-grandson James and her son-in-law Ron Anderson.
Growing up in Lethbridge, Mom played basketball in high school and was also a majorette. Jo-Anne left Lethbridge and moved to Calgary to attend college and become a comptometer operator. She married Lawrence Addison (Sham) Stevens on January 22, 1954, after meeting at a church activity. Together they raised four children; James Clarke (Darla), Cathy (Ron-Deceased), Robert Blake (Barbara) and Lawrence Bradley (Connie). Mom’s hobbies included walking, golf, sewing and ceramics, but her true joy came from her family.
Mom and Dad never missed a basketball, football or hockey game for her boys and that tradition continued with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was everything to her, leaving everyone thinking they were her favorite. Nothing thrilled her more than holding new-born babies and being an active part in their lives, providing loving kindness and equally kind and sage advice to all in her family tree.
To the end, Mom was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved being involved with planning and being part of ward and stake activities, with a special place in her heart for primary and young women. Her faith was quiet and often shown behind the scenes, with her example and actions speaking louder than her words, but she taught all of us to love the Saviour and His church. We never doubted where she stood. Anyone who met her soon fell in love with her and could see her kindness and generosity. She will never be replaced or forgotten but will be thought of and missed every day.
A Funeral Service will be held for Jo-Anne at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Parkland Stake Center (14540 Parkland Blvd. SE , Calgary) on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 11:00 am.
