Jeffrey Alan Ruggles

Apr 19, 1969 — Jun 6, 2026

Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing away of Jeff Ruggles on June 6, 2026.

After being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, he was blessed with 21 months of time to spend with his family and friends.

Jeff was born and raised in El Monte, California, in a family that grew up playing and coaching baseball in Little League and high school and following their favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their summer plans traditionally involved an annual camping trip to Carlsbad State Beach which instilled in Jeff a life-long love of the ocean. During his high school years, he worked alongside his father and older brother in the landscaping & maintenance business which fed his desire in life to have a well-manicured yard no matter where he lived.

Jeff was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After high school he served a mission in Portugal from 1988-1990 where he learned to speak the language and to love and serve his fellow man. When he returned home, Jeff attended Citrus College and Cal Poly Pomona pursuing a degree in Business Management. It was there that he met Rachel, and they married on November 9, 1991 and settled in Upland, California.

Right out of college he found employment with Enterprise Rent-A-Car and worked his way into management. This pursuit is what brought Jeff, Rachel, and their young family to Bismarck, North Dakota in 2003 and then to Calgary, Alberta, Canada later that same year. He worked in management most of his career and enjoyed getting to know the members of each team and encouraging them to be harmonious and successful together.

Jeff is survived by Rachel, his loving wife of 35 years, their children; Samuel (27), Marissa (24), Elise (24), Charlotte (20), his fur babies, dog (Blue) and cat (Suki), his siblings; Michael (Renee), Christopher (Daneen), Kimberley (Kevin), David (Aleah), and their father Hiram; and numerous other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his mother Sandra Louise (1993).

Jeff loved serving others and found a way to bless numerous lives even in his death, by arranging to donate a portion of his body to continue to help those in need. Jeff has many extended family members and friends that will remember him for his loyalty to his family, his attitude of hard work and commitment to others, and for his ability to let his guard down and to have fun and bring silliness and laughter to our lives.

Guests are invited to wear baseball attire to Jeff’s service.

A time of public viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 81 Royal Elm Drive, Calgary, Alberta. A private cremation will take place afterwards. Interment of his cremated remains will take place later this summer at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, California to rest alongside his mother.
