Janice (Jan) Davina Leaney, 87, passed away peacefully in her home in Okotoks, Alberta, on November 27th, surrounded by the love of her family.
Jan was born in Maidstone, Kent, England, on September 14, 1938, the only child of Howard and Ivy Seager. On September 29, 1956, she married the love of her life, Roy Leaney, beginning a partnership that lasted 69 years. She is survived by her husband, Roy, and their 6 children: Andrew (Emily), Martin (Brenda), Richard (Gloria), Joanne (Marcus), Darren, and Glenn Leaney. Jan was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Each one adored her, and she cherished them deeply.
Roy, Jan, and their 4 oldest children immigrated from England to Calgary, AB in July of 1966. While living in Calgary, they added two more children to their family. In 1973, they moved to an acreage near Okotoks, where they started Roan Electric, which is still operating today by one of their grandsons. Upon retirement, they served a mission for their church in Surrey, BC. Upon their return, they built a bed and breakfast at Tie Lake, BC. Jan spent countless hours giving back through charitable work, including the Cranbrook food bank, and supporting those in her community who needed a helping hand. In 2021, they returned to Okotoks, where they currently live.
Those who knew Jan will remember her as kind, funny, and loving — a woman who radiated happiness and positivity. She was known for her quick wit, her warm laugh, and her remarkable ability to find light and humor in every situation. She was the glue that held her family together, an anchor of faith, love, and optimism.
A Funeral Service for Jan will be held on Saturday December 6th at 12:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Banister Chapel (384 Banister Drive, Okotoks)
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Okotoks Food Bank, a cause close to Jan’s heart.
