Janice Lynn Ames (née Skinner)

May 1, 1956 — May 27, 2025

Calgary, AB

Janice Lynn Ames, known to friends and family as Jan, left this world on May 27, 2025, at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta. Born on May 1, 1956, in Edmonton, Alberta, Jan was a vibrant force of nature, a fiery redhead whose spirit shone as brightly as her laughter. Her dedication and hard work at her place of employment earned her a place in the hearts of her colleagues, making her not just a co-worker but also a cherished friend to many.

Jan lived life to the fullest, embracing each day with an infectious positive outlook, even during her illness. She had an extraordinary ability to care more about people than things, always putting the needs and happiness of others before her own. Her sense of humor could light up any room, and her funny anecdotes and witty remarks will be profoundly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Jan is survived by her brother, Boyd (Sherry) Skinner of Saskatoon, SK, and her sister, Shelley (Eric) Discher of Calgary, AB. She took pride in her role as aunt to her niece and nephews: Adam (Angela) Skinner, Mark (Tracy) Skinner, and Jessie (Curtis) Kendall, each of whom held a special place in her heart along with their families. Additionally, she had a very good friend, Bev Wiffen, whose bond with Jan stood the test of time, alongside numerous other friends who will continue to cherish the memories they shared with her.

Jan’s presence in this world is now forever missed, but her vibrant spirit and the love she offered will remain etched in the hearts of those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norm and Vi Skinner; her sister, Karla Skinner; and her husband, John Ames. They welcomed her with open arms, creating a loving reunion that brings comfort to those left behind.

As we remember Jan, let us celebrate a life lived with boldness and warmth—one that taught us that laughter and love are the true treasures of life.

Donations may be made in Jan's name to The Royal Canadian Legion.
