Jane Gibson passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the age of 89 years.
Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Jane was the cherished daughter of Augusta Goss and William Gibson, and the beloved sister to her two older brothers, William and Richard. The family moved from Edmonton to Calgary after a year, where they eventually settled down.
Jane attended Western High School, where she also worked as a Ward Aid at the Children's Ward Hospital. After graduating, she worked at AGT and other businesses. During this time, she met her future husband, John Norris, who was boarding at her parents' home in Calgary. Jane then moved to Toronto to study nursing at The Hospital for Sick Children, but homesickness for her family and John brought her back to Calgary. There, she pursued her artistic talents at SAIT for two years before marrying John.
With the birth of their children, Deborah and Mark, they started their family in Victoria. A move to Toronto followed, where Adrienne was born, and finally, they returned to Calgary, completing their family with Peter and Kimberley. Jane's career was a balance of her two passions: caregiving and art. She worked for Comcare, providing compassionate care to elderly patients, while nurturing her love for art in various mediums from pastel to acrylics. Jane's artwork, cherished by family and friends, is shared throughout the communities she lived in, from Vancouver to Fort McMurray.
Jane had a deep appreciation for nature, evident in her love for flowers, photography, gardening, swimming, and the simple beauty of the natural world. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Scattering Service was held for Jane at Rocky View Garden of Peace on Monday, September 23, 2024.
