Ida Hendrina Cornelia Lewis

Ida Lewis passed away on Wednesday June 14, 2023 at the age of 86 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Diane Lewis & Loretta (Stu) Cole; and siblings, Bob (Ineke) Schriever, Peter (Hannie) Schriever & Liesbeth (Wim) Reijnen. Ida is predeceased by her parents, Johann & Ida; husband, Gerald William Lewis; later partner, Charlie Lewis; and sisters, Gerda (Rients) van Amerongen & Thea (Monty) Bartlett.
Ida was born in Nijmegen, Netherlands to Ida Johanna (nee Janssen) and Johann Theodor Schriever. She was the eldest of six children. She grew up in the midst of the Second World War during German occupancy. When she was a young adult, she met a Canadian soldier, Gerald William ‘Bill’ Lewis, who was stationed in Germany at the time. They married in Nijmegen in 1958, then shortly after that Ida moved to Canada with Bill (or ‘Willy as she liked to call him). They first lived in Victoria, British Columbia then Edmonton before settling in Calgary, Alberta. She worked at the Glenmore Auxiliary hospital starting as a dishwasher then got her dietician certification and planned and prepared hospital meals for the patients. She retired in 2013.
Ida loved flowers, all sorts and the more colourful, the better. She was an avid and skilled gardener. Ida also loved a good bargain! One of her favourite past times was to thrift shop. She loved to poke around the stores and pick up new treasures.
As per Ida’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. If friends so desire donations may be made in Ida’s name to
