Heinrich “Henry” Bergen

Henry Bergen Nov. 9, 1918, Halbstadt, Mb. – passed July 19, 2014, Calgary, Ab.

He is survived by his wife Alice of 8 1/2 years; his children Jack (Jean); Connie (daughter-in-law); Dora (Al); Nettie; Bill (Annette); Mary (Harold); Linda; Lloyd (Audrey); many grand children & great grand children, great-great grand children & his brother Jake (Helen). Henry is predeceased by his first wife, Agnes; Douglas Finch (son-in-law); Little G (great- grandson); Abe (his son); Douglas Hourie (son-in-law); Michael McInnes (great-grandson); all his brothers & sisters but one, Jake Bergen (Helen).

Henry & Agnes were married in 1939. He lived & worked in Manitoba where his first 4 children (John, Abram, Dora & Nettie) were born until the winter of 1946 at which time the family moved to Quibell, On. In 1948 Henry started his truck driving career with Patricia, Motorways and Imperial Oil which continued until 1979. From 1947 to 1960 Henry & Agnes had 4 more children (William, Mary, Linda & Lloyd) and also moved to a couple different homes within the community. During part of his truck driving career he also had a second job; he owned and operated a School Bus for approximately 5 or 6 years. In 1979 Henry quit his truck driving and they moved to Vancouver Island at which time they rented a home for about a year & he worked at K-mart as Custodian for a number of years, although some of this was only as part time. Henry was married to Agnes Ginter for 60 years. Following Agnes’ passing in 1999, Henry stayed in Campbell River until 2003 and then moved to Calgary, Ab; eventually met and married Alice Simms in 2005.

A Memorial Service will be held on August 1, 2014 at 2 pm at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 17 Ave S.E. 403-235-3602)
