Heather Joy Burtis passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at the age of 78 years.
It is with deep love and gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Heather Joy Burtis, a wonderful woman whose warmth, creativity, and devotion touched countless hearts.
Heather lived with a joy that radiated most brightly in the presence of her family and her cherished community of Rocky View Alliance Church. She was a loving Mother to Randal who she professed could not have been more perfect. She was his greatest fan and cheerleader. Heather referred to Cara as her daughter-in-love always highlighting her confidence in Cara with unwavering support. One of Heather's greatest delights was being a grandma. She was proud and loved encouraging them, always delighting in the changes and amazing uniqueness of each of the granddaughters. She treasured being able to connect with her girls up close with a snuggle or from afar on a video chat. Heather said she had the gift of 16 extra years to watch them grow, a time she felt was a miracle from the Lord.
Heather treasured her times with Mitch as she provided a steady and loving home for him for many years. She loved being Auntie to Mitch and sharing great feasts together was a delight. Family was at the very center of her life, and she embraced every opportunity to nurture and care for those she loved.
Her creativity shone most vividly in her kitchen, where she welcomed everyone with delicious meals, laughter, and her unmistakable love for cheese, bread and always garlic—never hesitating to slip a few cloves into her dishes as her special signature. She found joy in hosting dinners, where her table became a place of connection, comfort, and celebration.
A lifelong animal lover, Heather had a tender heart for dogs, especially rescues. There was always a faithful companion by her side, cared for with the same compassion and loyalty she gave to everyone in her life. Heather was a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her. She will be remembered as a kind and faithful friend, and a beloved member of her church family.
Heather is survived by her nephew Mitchell Bell; niece, Jenine Campbell; daughter-in-law, Cara Burtis; granddaughters, Katie Burtis and Julia Burtis; along with Wayne's fiancé, Beryl Scott; and other further extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Randal Stephen Burtis; brother, Wayne Campbell; sister, Judith Bell.
She will be missed beyond measure but carried forever in the love of her family, her friends, and her community.
