Gwendolyn Viola Coakley, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many, passed away on September 22, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 61. Born on Monday, December 30, 1963, in picturesque Nova Scotia, Gwendolyn’s warmth touched the lives of all who knew her.
In 1996, she made a significant move to Calgary, Alberta, where she continued to create cherished memories with her family and friends. Gwendolyn found joy and solace in life’s simple pleasures. She loved swimming, biking, and the companionship of her dogs.
Gwendolyn is survived by her husband Gordon Coakley and her devoted children: Stacy (Chris) Burak, Chris (Nikki) Coakley, Sarah Coakley, Alex Yeoman, Johnathan Johanson, all residing in Calgary. She was a proud grandmother to 17 grandchildren, who were the light of her life and the pride of her heart. Throughout her life, she shared countless lessons, laughter, and love with them, leaving them with a legacy enriched by her kindness and candid spirit.
Her siblings, Janet, Terry, and Valerie, also held a special place in her life, fostering bonds that spanned distances between Nova Scotia and Alberta. Gwendolyn is survived by numerous relatives in Nova Scotia, who remember her vibrant spirit.
The loss of Gwendolyn Viola Coakley leaves a void in the hearts of many. Her legacy will continue to resonate through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and siblings, as they carry forward the values she instilled and the love she generously shared. May she rest in peace, embraced by the love she so freely gave and received throughout her life.
