Grayson Cole Prather

September 9, 2004 — May 1, 2023

Grayson Prather was born on September 9, 2004 in Calgary, Alberta and passed away following a tragic climbing accident at the age of 18 years on May 1, 2023. He was a cherished son, brother, grandson, friend and a young man with a bright future. He was a curious, mischievous and delightful boy, a busy, kind, thoughtful, and enthusiastic youth and a determined, entrepreneurial, passionate, and full of plans young man, always testing the limits of what he could do.

Grayson attended Trinity Christian School from Kindergarten through Junior High, and graduated from Dr. EP Scarlett High School in June 2022. It was through the Mechanics Program in High School that Grayson discovered his love for working on cars. He was a registered Mechanics Apprentice and planned to attend SAIT while working towards attaining his Red Seal in Automotives.

Grayson was always very active – biking, rollerblading, skiing, skateboarding, trampolining, and mountain biking. He attained the Bronze Cross in swimming and liked to cliff jump. He was always creating fun and daring things to do. When he was younger, he loved to read and spent countless hours putting together the wooden train set and building Lego.

Grayson had a natural talent for things mechanical beginning with motorized Lego, moving on to bikes and progressing to cars and trucks. He began buying and fixing up cars before he was 16, always working towards owning his own business someday. He was a regular at Pick & Pull, finding parts to clean up and sell to finance his car projects. He had a deep love for the car community, where he made many friends and was working hard to have his car entered in its first car show.

Aside from his love for cars, Grayson was known for his huge heart for others. He was always the first to offer help if he saw a need and had a special talent for making everyone feel loved and appreciated. He was deeply devoted to his parents and three sisters, always sharing his wonderful hugs and his infectious smile. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, kindness, and a love of life. His passing has left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be remembered for his enthusiastic spirit and his passion for cars and mechanics. Grayson will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Organ donation is a selfless act that can save lives. Grayson’s family, knowing this is what Grayson would have wanted, chose to donate his organs to others to provide them with the gift of a miracle in their lives.

Grayson will be lovingly remembered by his parents Brad & Michelle Prather, grandparents Ken & Arlette Prather, of Calgary, AB, and Ron Eby and Nancy Eby of Red Deer, AB; sisters Mckenna, Kya and Suraya; aunts and uncles Dawn (Wayne) Dejaegher, Deborah Hugli and Chad (Kristi) Eby; cousins Karsten and Mattea Eby, Cody Eves and his daughters Gabriella and Ariella Ford; and many more family and friends.

A Celebration of Grayson’s life will be held at Southview Alliance Church (20200 Walden Blvd SE, Calgary) on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 2:30 pm.
