Gordon Edward Sivertsen

Jan 3, 1935 — Sep 28, 2026

Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Edward Sivertsen, who, after having graced the world and blessed those who’d known him for 91 years, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026. We are comforted knowing he lay in his final moments as he lived, for almost 70 years, with his wife June by his side.

Gordon was born on January 3, 1935, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Knut and Ragna Sivertsen, who immigrated to Canada from Norway, drawn by new opportunities and attracted to the optimism and idealism of the Canadian frontier. From his parents, Gordon learned his work ethic and the love for his family that so permeated his life and proved the bedrock upon which his legacy will forever stand.

Gord’s story truly begins in 1955 at a dance, where with the cinematic aplomb of any great romance, he was introduced to a young lady named June Dow. He was instantly smitten and later confessed to his mother that he’d met an angel. And with the manifest destiny of such a bold proclamation, it was this same angel with whom he exchanged vows in marriage in 1956, and she remained his best friend, his companion, his partner in crime, and the love of his life.

Together, Gord and June raised a family grounded in their love of each other and laughter (lots of laughter). Together they had four beautiful children, Brenda (Rod), Darren (Sheri), Jeff-deceased (Maja), and Michelle (Jay); to them, he was a paragon, the very model of a father and parent that they would aspire to become. To his nineteen grandchildren, they were just fortunate to call him Grandpa, and to cherish all of life’s milestones with his constant presence and blessing; and to his seventeen great-grandchildren, he will forever be affectionately remembered as Gorn.

It was his genuine love of family that drove his guiding principle to serve his fellow man. Gord completed one year of Engineering at the University of Alberta and realized his talents were better suited to the working world. Having moved to Calgary in 1965, he worked at the Burns Meatpacking Plant and then utilized his interpersonal expertise and joined Dome Petroleum as Manager of Employee Relations in 1970. After decades in growing roles, he started his own successful company in the ‘90s as a Real Estate advisor & HR Consultant. But it was his volunteer work that truly cemented his exceptional life; from his countless acts of service with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including his years as the Bishop of the Young Adult Ward that served as a guiding foundation for these young men and women entering adulthood, to his tireless work raising funds for the Calgary Drop-In Center, canvassing Calgary executives for two years, proving his hustle and work ethic required no recognition but self-fulfillment.

Gord lived a life of friendship, honor, hard work, and fidelity to his Savior. It is impossible to summarize the effects Gord has had among those in his orbit, and though his legacy casts an enormous shadow, his examples are instrumental in ensuring the generations to follow will cast their own.

Gord was beloved by all his family and friends and will be remembered for his service to his fellow man, his relentless work ethic, his love of sports, and his devotion to family and friends.
