Gordon Scott passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the age of 87 years. Gordon will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara Ann Rawsthorne Scott; their six wonderful children: Craig Scott (Angela) of Calgary, Susan Vermunt (Rick) of Airdrie, Karyn Drake (Troy) of Kathryn, AB, Jason Scott (Rebecca) of Herriman, UT, Jeffrey Scott of Calgary and Jennifer Scott of Calgary; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marilyn Kvellestad (John), Jo-Ann Schwitzer (Greg) and Carolyn Thomas (Brent); a brother-in-law Alan Harvey; a large extended family (including the Rawsthorne family) and many friends.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Ruth Scott; sisters Elaine and Joyce; and sister-in-law Sue Weeks.
Gordon "Gordie" was born and raised in Calgary Alberta, graduating from Crescent Heights High School. He worked many jobs through his teen years until he was 19 when he joined the City of Calgary Police Service. Shortly after joining the Police force, he met Barbara Rawsthorne and in 1959 they were married which resulted in raising 6 wonderful children. Gordie had a remarkable career in law enforcement, serving in various capacities and ultimately retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Shortly after retiring from the CPS, he bought an Insurance Company where he worked for many years and then sold as a part owner. Gordie was a proud member of the Calgary Police Veterans Association, serving 11 years as Secretary and 8 years as President. He enjoyed his association with his fellow members until his passing.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, he loved playing football up until he joined the CPS, but continued to play hockey until the age of 70. Gordie was employed part time with the Calgary Flames organization, as well was a dedicated season ticket holder with both the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders. He loved everything about the game, he also loved a casual round of golf and occasional bike rides through the city.
Known for his wonderful sense of humour, Gordie was a natural joke teller, bringing laughter and joy to those around him.
His love for movies began in childhood and continued throughout his life, often sharing his favorite ones with family and reliving classic moments.
Throughout his life, Gordie made a lasting impact on those around him. His kindness, gentle demeanor, perseverance, smiling eyes and genuine nature, drew in people, making him a beloved figure in the lives of his family and friends leaving a legacy of love and positivity.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Gordon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Bow Valley Chapel (2526 - 24 Avenue NW , Calgary) on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 11:20 am, (yes 11:20 am - 1120 was his CPS Badge Number).
