Gordon Lilley of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on February 17, 2016 at the age of 91 years. He was born in R.M. of Shell River, Manitoba on May 22, 1924 to Frank and Mary (Brazeau) Lilley, one of nine children. Gordon served our country in Europe with the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII. Back home, he was a longtime active member of The Royal Canadian Legion of Calgary. He really enjoyed dancing and was very good at it. He also loved playing darts, pool and camping with his friends. On April 30, 1949 Gordon married his sweetheart, Mary Magdelena Martha Walz. The wedding took place in Calgary, where they raised their three sons and one daughter. In 2009 Gordon accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. Gordon is survived by his sons, Alwin (Laila) Lilley of Airdrie, Murray Lilley of Calgary, and Douglas (Liv) Lilley of Norway; daughter, Rosemarie (Paul) Sharlow of Airdrie; six grandchildren, Virginia, John and Samantha (Tristan), Samuel (Niina), Liisa, and Michael (Siwei); nine great grandchildren, who loved visiting their Great Grandpa in Calgary, Gavin, Dameon, Rayne, Leland, Saida, Toivo, Emilia, Miiko and baby Eliel; his big sister, Alice Wylie and his little brother, Frank Lilley, both of Calgary. He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years on December 19, 1990. He was also predeceased by his companion, Gladys Macfarlane (2015); his brothers, George Lilley (1929) and David Lilley (1995); sisters, Alvina Hiebert (2000), Mary Agnes Schurman (1998), Frances Lillian Goetz (1969) and Evelyn Lilley (1935). Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Pierson’s Funeral Service, 4121-17 Avenue S.E. Calgary, on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at Pierson’s Funeral Service on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Field of Honor, Queen’s Park Cemetery, 3219 4 Street N.W.
