The family of Frances ‘Fran’ Magdelene Maguire (née Grossman) of Calgary, Alberta sadly announce her very sudden passing on October 1, 2026 at the age of 66 years.
Fran was the youngest of nine children born to the late Alois and Theresa Grossman. She is survived by her loving companion of 20 years, Hank who will miss her dearly. She will be forever missed and loved by her daughters, Melissa (Aaron) and Kendra (Layneyale) of Regina. Her granddaughters, Olivia and Evie. Her memory will also be cherished by Hank’s children and grandchildren; sisters Clara, Frieda (Leonard), and Mary (Derwin); brothers Leo (Dell), Kenneth (Hazel), James (Shelley), and Dennis (Mona); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Fran was born in Cupar, Saskatchewan but only lived briefly on the farm before the family moved to Southey. At age 6, they moved to Regina where Fran started Grade 1 at St. Michael School. She had attended Miller High School and quickly entered the work force. Starting her family and making the big move to Calgary in 1992 made it possible to finally find her love, Hank. Up until the end, those two barely left each other’s side. Doing pretty much everything together. Fran was undoubtedly one of the hardest working women, both as a mother and in any industry she tried. Her resilience and perseverance will always be remembered. She became a grandmother in 2010, and again in 2012 having the pleasure of playing, laughing, and loving them both immensely.
Her passions included dancing, tossing a ball around with her grandkids, and eventually finding the courage to learn to swim. Helping her make even more memories with her family. Enjoying the outdoors, tending to flowers, hunting down garage sales, car shows, and the adventure of long drives with Hank not knowing where they’d end up next. Fran would always lend a hand to family and friends wherever she could. Throughout her life, she watched and supported her daughters grow and build families and lives of their own of which she was very thankful for.
Fran found joy in telling her family stories of her life growing up. When asked about how she was like, tales of wild escapades and typical teenage shenanigans were met with big laughs and knee slaps. There were mentions of afro hair styles and how some clothing she wore then, are making a comeback. Memories of her parents and siblings were shared. Some shocking and others hilarious. Being the baby of the family, she laughed stating how she had it made for a while; as in having everyone dote on her. As a girl, she even had a dog named Boots, who she’d tell secrets to growing up. Keeping Fran’s memory alive for generations will always be a priority. We all just wish we could have had more time together.
To honor Fran’s wishes, there will neither be a funeral nor Celebration of Life. However, any pictures, anecdotes, and messages of condolences can be placed on this webpage, or emailed to info@piersons.ca
