It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Ervin Causing Balleza on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the age of 84.
Born in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo, Philippines, Ervin was raised in a close-knit community. After completing his secondary education, he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Commerce at the University of San Augustine. In 1972, Ervin immigrated into Canada, sponsored by his sister, Nonita (Bebe). He began his new life in a foreign land with determination and hope, living with his sister for two years and embracing the opportunities that lay ahead.
During occasional visits to Edmonton, fate introduced him to Edna. Their connection was immediate and genuine. They began courting in 1975 and were married in September 1977, embarking on a lifelong journey of love and partnership. He worked for Canadian Pacific (CP) Rail. Together, they raised three children — Ervin James, John, and Tanya.
Ervin will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Edna Balleza; children, Ervin James, John (Sash) Balleza, and Tanya (Kris) Paul and we can’t forget his favourite, Teala; grandchildren, Montanna, Madison, Jaden, Chloe, Valletta, Kassius, Austin; brothers and sister, Nestor (Lynne), Carmelo (Virgie), Nonita (Jesse) Antonio, Clarence, Rene, Nep (Eden); sister-in-law, Annie Balleza; and many extended family members and friends both in Canada and the Philippines. He was predeceased by his parents, Juan and Nona Balleza; brother, Johnny Balleza.
