It is with broken hearts that we announce that Ernest Garry French passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024 at the age of 74.
Ernie will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Big Ern, Grampa, Brother, Uncle and Friend.
Ernie is survived by his wife Wendy; son Garry (Jodie); daughter Tanis (James – Alyssa, Megan); grandchildren Nolan, Brooklynn (RJ), and Katie; great-grandchildren Brantley, Remedi, and Bezlynn; his brother Gordon (Cindy); brothers-in-law Rod, Geoff (Kim), and Derek (Michelle); numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by both his parents and 8 siblings.
Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Ernie moved to Calgary in 1969 where he met and fell in love with Wendy. Their son Garry was the first to come along and their family was completed with the birth of their daughter, Tanis.
There wasn’t a sport that Ernie didn’t both love and excel at. This included soccer, fast-ball, darts, bowling, and slo-pitch, which he gravitated to once he learned there was somewhere he could play against others of the same age. His participation in sports led to many life-long friendships which he cherished.
Ernie had a few different jobs throughout his life, but the one that he enjoyed the most was working the front counter at Paradise Bowling Lanes. He loved greeting the people with a friendly smile when they came in and even played on teams in a few different leagues throughout the years.
But above all, his greatest love was for his family. They all knew he was always there, no matter what. A shoulder to cry on, a word or two of sage advice, and the absolute best sports fan you could ask for.
Ernie was loved by many and will be missed by all.
A private family service will be held and a Celebration of Life will take place in the spring.
