Emma Ibita Boogerd

Emma Ibita Boogerd, née Quierra, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 79.

Born in the Philippines, Emma built a life centred around family, love, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her warmth, her resilience, her devotion to family, and the quiet love she gave to the people around her.

She will be deeply missed by her sons, Benjamin and JR Boogerd, and by her daughter-in-law, Taleah. Emma is also survived by her brothers, Ronald and Augusto Quierra; her nieces and nephews in Calgary and the Philippines; and many extended family members and friends.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Johannes “John” Boogerd, in January 2024; her parents, Andres Quierra and Marcelina Ibita; her brothers, Oscar, Getulio, and Ernesto Quierra; and her sisters, Natividad Quierra and Florida Cabanlit.

A Public Visitation will be held at Pierson's Funeral Service - Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 17 Ave SE, Calgary) on Wednesday, June 24, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. 

In keeping with Emma’s wishes, a Private Graveside service for family and close friends will take place immediately following.
