Elizabeth "Liz" Toplolnitsky

November 28, 1924 — January 17, 2026

Calgary

Elizabeth " Liz " Topolnitsky passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at the age of 101 years old. Liz was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years Nick in 2020, numerous brothers, sisters, brother in laws, sister in laws, nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Polly (Bill) Cymbulak, Helen, and sister-in-law Irene Topolnitsky all from Edmonton. She is fondly remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family that stretched across generations. She was so loved for her warmth, kindness and unwavering presence in their lives.

Growing up on a farm with her 12 brothers and sisters shaped her strong work ethic, independence and appreciation for all that she had. Later in life Liz met the love of her life Nick with whom she shared a beautiful partnership and 63 years of marriage. Their bond was a constant source of strength, comfort, love, and volunteering at the church. Liz would work her years until retirement at a number of different printing firms and at Beaver Lumber.

Nothing made Liz happier than being with family and friends and her love for travel. Alaskan cruises, a trip to the beaches of Hawaii, camping in British Columbia, playing board games and cards in Fairmont, wordsearch puzzles, tending to her tomato plants and watching Hudson & Rex were some of her favourite things to do.

Liz faced life with resilience, love, consistency, good natured stubbornness, positive outlook (do not sweat the small stuff) and remarkable mental sharpness. Known for her great sense of humour, with her quick wit or a gentle smile brought joy to those around her.

Liz leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, friends, her church and faith and perseverance that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her. Liz was grateful for Alex and Garry who were her primary care givers, and extended family and friends who helped her along the way.

Liz's life is a reminder to all of us to embrace the challenges we face and enjoy every moment we are given. Pour a little bit of brandy or Baileys in your coffee to celebrate her beautiful life.

The Divine Liturgy for Liz will be celebrated at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor (404 Meredith Road NE, Calgary) on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11:00 am.
