Edna Martha Metner (Grahn)

Edna Metner died peacefully at George Boyak long term care home, Calgary AB on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the age of 101 years.

Edna was born and raised in the interlake area of Manitoba. Married Albert Metner in 1946. They lived on a farm near Moosehorn, MB where their 3 children were born and raised. Edna worked as a telephone operator in Ashern after Albert’s death. She then transferred to the office in Dauphin, MB when the Ashern office was closed. She retired from the telephone system, and shortly thereafter she moved to Calgary to be closer to family. In Calgary she was very active in senior’s organizations as well as bowling and golfing. Her biggest passions were golfing which she enjoyed until her 90's, and scrabble, where she enjoyed regularly beating everyone that played her, even after her 100th birthday. She was living independently until suffering a stroke in October of 2023. After a hospital stay she was moved to long term care, where she passed in February.

Edna is survived by her three sons, Donald of Winnipeg, Manitoba, William (Carol) of Royston, British Columbia, and Brian (Patricia) of Calgary, Alberta; 4 grandchildren, Melissa (Daniel) of Waldheim, SK, Mark of Calgary, Matthew of Calgary, and Kathryn of Burnaby, BC; 2 great-grandchildren, Linnaea and Ethan of Waldheim, SK; and sister, Helen. She was predeceased by her husband Albert Joseph Metner; brothers Harold, Albert, Robert, Jack and Elmer; and sisters Emily, Myrtle, and Emma.

She has been cremated and will be buried beside her husband Albert this coming summer.
