Edith Muriel Slous

June 20, 1927 — December 2, 2023

On Saturday, December 2, 2023 Mrs. Edith Slous of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at the age of 96 years.

Edith was the loving mother of Brett and Todd Hobbs as well as a grandmother and great grandmother to Jeremy and Jaxon Hobbs.

Edith was predeceased by her first husband Rodney Hobbs; her second husband Donald (Bud) Slous; Bud’s siblings Gordie and Ruby; her siblings Barney and Lillian; and her daughter in law Wendy Hobbs.

Edith was born in Chancellor, Alberta to Arie and Signe Hegi. They lived on a farm, and she had many interesting stories about life back then. Edith moved to Calgary in 1946 and worked at the Hudson’s Bay. She married Rodney in 1952, and eventually quit working to raise her sons. Rod passed away in 1966 and she went back to work for a time.

Edith found a new love in Donald (Bud) Slous. They married and had many happy years together camping, traveling and enjoying life at their home on Chestermere Lake. They built many friendships over the years and Edith worked hard to nurture each and everyone.

Bud passed away in 2014. Edith moved not far away to Prince of Peace Manor where she enjoyed building new friendships. Edith was very outgoing and the management there made her the welcoming ambassador for a time. She respected the care givers and knew all their names. They in turn looked after her well.

Edie dressed with class and dignity everyday. Even in her later years, she made the effort to wear makeup, jewelry and of course keep her hair looking nice.

Edie was always upbeat and an inspiration to all. She loved people and socializing. Edie made it a habit to communicate with everyone she knew on their birthday. Many will be missing her calls and be reminded of this incredible woman for years to come. She was a very loving and thoughtful person and touched everyone that met her. Edie will be missed.

A celebration of life will be held in the New Year. Cremation has taken place at the Foothills Crematorium.
