Douglas Brant Bennion

April 16, 1960 — September 6, 2011

Douglas “Brant” Bennion, beloved husband of Marilyn Bennion passed away unexpectedly on September 6th, 2011 at the Foothills Medical Centre at the age of 51. As well as his wife Marilyn, he will be dearly missed by their four children: Christopher Bennion (Kelsey) of Airdrie and their daughter Emma, Matthew Douglas Bennion (Tamara) and their son Samuel, Alex Bennion and Katie Bennion, all of Calgary; his parents Doug and Kay Bennion of Calgary; two sisters Leslie Lee (Murray) of Calgary and Christie Wimmer (Kent) of Highland, UT; and a large and loving extended family.

Brant was born in Regina, SK and moved to Calgary as a young boy with his family. Following High School he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Albuquerque, NM. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Calgary earning his BA in Chemical Engineering and later his Ph.D. He joined his family’s company Hycal Energy where he was able to use his expertise in a variety of Petroleum related research and development projects. He later became the President of Hycal. During his career he served as the President of the Petroleum Society of CIM, traveled the world as a distinguished lecturer for the SPE, and received numerous awards and recognitions for his professional work. Brant loved spending summers at the family cabin at Shuswap Lake. He also enjoyed the extensive traveling he did as a result of his work, as well as with his wife and children. Brant loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served extensively in a variety of capacities at Church. He loved life and living it. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh with friends. He loved to teach, both in his career and at church. He was unfailingly generous with his time, talents and resources. His greatest love and devotion has been to his family who look forward to being re-united with him in the eternities. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Pierson’s Funeral Service, 4121 – 17 Avenue SE on Sunday, September 11 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint West Stake Centre, 6560 Silver Springs Cr. NW, Calgary on Monday, September 12 at 1:00 pm with visitation from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm. Interment will follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
