We sadly announce the passing of our mother and grandmother. After a prolonged illness, Dorothy has been released and now is residing in heaven with her Lord and those who have passed ahead of her. She passed at Bethany Care Center in Airdrie, Alberta on October 13, 2026.
Dorothy was born March 22, 1928 in Lacombe, Alberta to her parents Douglas and Helene Ball. She was born the third child of five children: her brothers Evart, Vernon (Bud), Ronald, her sister Rheanne.
In 1932, the family moved to the homestead around Benalto, Alberta, just west of Red Deer. Dorothy was raised on the family farm and was taught at an early age the values of hardwork, honesty, and integrity. Her lifelong love of animals, nature, and music came to her early in life. She became an accomplished horseback rider, starting at the age of two. We grew up hearing of her love of her horse Rocket. Dorothy attended school at The Happy Hills School until high school, when she transferred to Red Deer and lived with her grandmother. She worked as a waitress in Sylvan Lake, Alberta for two years after schooling was completed.
In 1946, Dorothy married Jacob Mueller after his return from active duty from World War 2. At that time they moved to the Calgary area, and started their family. Cheryl was born in 1949, Judy in 1950, Lance in 1951, Layne in 1957, and Tim in 1962. During this time, Dorothy continued working as a waitress at the famous Teakettle Inn, where she met some of the stars of the day. We heard stories of her serving Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and others.
The family moved to Lethbridge, Alberta in the spring of 1962, as Jake had invested in the operations of Polar Beverages, the Pepsi-Cola distributor of the area. During the years in Lethbridge Dorothy was a dedicated housewife, taking good care of her family. Dorothy developed her skills as a seamstress, and was also knitting and doing various crafts on a regular basis. She also began doing volunteer work with children, and running a bible study group from our home. She even appeared on local television with a group of pre school children. Dorothy also became the local director of the Happy Hour Bible Club.
In 1970, the family returned to Calgary. Throughout the 1970's and the 1980's she continued her work with youth, volunteering with Pioneer Clubs, for young girls. She became an instructor for women, so they too could teach young girls. She served on various committees in the Calgary area, for women's support groups. Dorothy also became Calgary Regional Director for Pioneer Groups.
In 1989 Dorothy married her second husband, Charlie Bolton and moved to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Her continuing love of nature and the mountains was in harmony with her new environment. Also continuing with her desire to serve, she began visiting at the Crossbow Auxiliary Hospital. She also continued volunteer work with seniors in the area. Dorothy was also putting her skills to good use, sewing and knitting for palliative care patients in the Rocky area.
In 2011 Dorothy moved to Airdrie to be closer to her children and grandchildren, she didn't want to miss the important times with her family.
Throughout her life, Dorothy never let various health issues stop her from pursuing her desires to be of service to her family and her community. Her love of Jesus Christ and her faith always guiding her to higher expectations of herself.
Dorothy was also blessed by traveling throughout various areas. She has been to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Italy and Switzerland, The Holy Land, and various places in the western United States. She also has traveled extensively through Canada, visiting the eastern coast and all provinces along the way.
Dorothy is survived by her children Cheryl (Jay deceased), Judy, Layne (Linda deceased) and Tim( Sandra). She also is survived by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many good friends.
Dorothy has been predeceased by all of her siblings, her son Lance, and various cousins and family members.
