Doris Ellen Johnston

JOHNSTON, Doris Ellen August 22, 1931 November 14, 2012 Doris passed away on November 14, 2012 at the Southwood Care Centre. She was born in Montreal and moved to Calgary with her family in 1973. The Johnston family has been members of St. Luke’s Anglican Church since 1973. Doris and Fred were both in the choir and Fred also played the organ. For many years, she served on the Alter Guild. Doris enjoyed camping, bowling and bingo. She worked bingos in Albert Park for over 25 years. Doris loved to go the The Keg for get-togethers with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick George Johnston; her mother Ellen Withenshaw and father George Withenshaw (both born in Lancashire, England); and her brothers George Withenshaw Jr. (Nova Scotia) and his wife Doris and Harold Allan Withenshaw (Montreal) and his wife Joyce. Doris will be greatly missed by her sons Frederick “Rick” Johnston Jr. of Calgary, Lindsay Johnston (Linda Andrew and her daughter Christine) of Calgary and Glen Johnston (Karen Russell) of Edmonton; her daughter Lee Johnston (Mark Baker) of Linden; her grandchildren Christopher Johnston, Jennifer Johnston, Jamie Brown (Neil), Gary Johnston (Rae Anne) of Peterborough, Ontario, Nicole Johnston, Kurt Johnston and Taylor Johnston-Baker; great grandchildren Latavia Brown and Sirani Brown and by her very special friend Gigi Nichelson of Regina, Saskatchewan. Visitation will be held at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 17 Avenue SE) on Thursday, November 22, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church (2951 26 Avenue SE) on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’s name to the Calgary Humane Society (SPCA), 4455 110 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB T2C 2T7.
