Donna Irene Hamill

October 27, 1953 — May 25, 2026

Calgary

It is with profound sadness to share the passing of Donna Irene Hamill on May 25, 2026. After a long and courageous battle, Donna passed away peacefully at 5:50 a.m., held in the arms of her daughter Chelsea.

Family was everything to Mom; she was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. She was a deeply loved granddaughter to the late Anthony and Barbara, a daughter to Frederick and Irene, who beamed with pride as she pursued her career of a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN). Donna was a selfless and loyal sister to Gordon (Lynne), a devoted wife to the late Norm Hamill and a generous and attentive Aunty Donny Doo to Michael, Kenny (Tobi) and Robby (Marjorie). Donna was also family to Brenda, Jeff, Christa and Telina. She loved spending time at the lake and will always think back to Fort Qu ‘Appelle as home.

In the earlier years, Donna built an incredible reputation working as a RPN; compassionately caring for the needs of many at Sherbrooke Community Centre and Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon. She was often called to come be with residents and their family at the end of life’s journey – a testament to the selfless way she carried through the world.

She built relationships and friendships like no one else. Whether it be from her highschool days, through work or through cab trips to various appointments she often shared how T, Judy, Rosita, Lorna, Marilyn, Pammie, Gaylene, Kristin, Joyce, Launel, Samantha, Libby and Gulzar contributed to her day. She listened with care, authenticity and provided the most reassuring and affirming responses. She was even adopted into the fire hall party group and took great pride keeping up with Drew and the boys.

From the words of her own mouth, and repeated by those who knew Donna, her most cherished title was Momma, to her daughter Chelsea. Donna was the definition of a devoted Mother; she moved the earth for Chelsea since the day she was born. She was extremely active in every aspect of Chelsea’s life, from precision skating and dance competitions to serving as the room mom. Donna took the role of room mom one step further, by welcoming Chelsea’s friends into her home, offering lunches, Band- Aids, clothing, and whatever support was needed. Nicole, Kathleen, Sarah, and Angie were just a few of the many young people whose lives were touched by Donna’s generosity and caring heart.

Mom consistently surprised many with her soft, unexpected acts of thoughtfulness. Whether it be personalized wrapping paper to her adopted littles or an affirming message on a stressful day. Mom’s biggest compliment was to Dale, describing him to know her daughter as well as she. She loved fiercely and was generous to her core. Her most generous gesture was her move to Calgary, Alberta two weeks before her first and only grandchild Lincoln was born. Donna, who then became Nana, absolutely adored Lincoln.

She spent all her remaining days thinking of how she could love Lincoln just a little bit more. She was the only one who Lincoln would ask to ‘play’ with; always spending the time in their special game Lioness and Zoe.

Mom didn’t fixate on her challenges and brought such incredible light to the world. If you are lucky, you have heard her vivacious booming laugh or have been on the receiving end of her sharp wit. I know Mom would want to thank Dr. Ewan Roddie, June, Dr. Chad Ball, Dr. Laura Stinton, Sandra, Dr. Marc Kerba, Dr. Daniel Tushinski, Dr. Barry Cayen, Kelsie, Dr. Safiya Karim and Dr. Waseem Mehmood for your responsive, considerate and timely care. Thank you to Katelynn in the Foothills Medical Centre Emergency Department; Glady, Shan, Karlee and Christina from PCU 112 Acute Neurosciences for their tender touches of compassion and support during her final hours. In lieu of flowers/donations, please send your favorite memory or admired attribute of Mom to inmemoryofdonnahamill@gmail.com for her daughter to treasure. In accordance with Donna’s wishes, cremation has taken place at Foothills Crematorium. A small gathering to be held with close family and friends to celebrate her life and honor her memory.

Mom I love you.
