It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence Dixon on Thursday July 20,2023 at the age of 76 years.

He was a husband, father, father in-law grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, nephew and will be remembered by all those left to mourn.

Lawrence was born in Willow Creek, Alberta. He then attended school in Eden Valley, AB.

Lawrence valued hard work and in his early years he worked beside his mother, father, brothers and sisters, where they would camp and live at various Farms and Ranches in Southern Alberta. From Longview area to Pincher Creek he formed many strong and lasting friendships with Families they worked with, He was a true cowboy and Ranch hand. Lawrence even tried his hand in the Rodeo, participating in bull riding and steer Wrestling events. He also loved to dance the two-step.

Lawrence honored and lived his Stoney Nakoda Cultural Teachings and Language till his passing. He was a respected elder of the Stoney Nation and was a pipe holder as well as a knowledge keeper. Lawrence was a pillar of support and strength and had unconditional love for family and will be greatly missed and treasured by all. He had a loving heart of pure gold.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 39 years Lorianne; his sons, Patrick (Natalie), Spike, Sanka and Theoren; adopted son, Wayne Hill; daughters, Dolly, Savina (Padget) and Michelle; daughter-in-law, Delphine Ear; his 21 grandchildren; sisters Clarice and Kathleen; brothers Robert and Elroy (Debbie); adopted daughters, Marcie Beaver, Olivia (Desi); Nieces and nephews, Brenda (Bob), Devon, Yogi, Jerry, Rhonda, Jaydelynne (Cory), Dallas Families, Allie, Barry (Antia), Reatha Lefthand Families; sisters in law, Sherry, Bernadine (Wyatt), Brenda (Morley), Charlene (Clarence); Brother in law, Gilbert (Florine); nephews and nieces Mina, Evangeline, Florence (Bruce) Families; Ollie (Laine), Elliott, Families, Darcy, Bruce, Diane, Teresa, Tammy, Corrina Dixon Families, Rena (Donald), Harvey, Viola (Archie), Marietta Dixon Families, Relatives, Wyo, Lisa, Rachel (Cedric), Olivia (Clarence), Murphy (Laura) and Frank Jr. (Tracy); Families, Norman, Eva, Helen Baptiste, Charlie (Cassie) Mark, Winnie Simeon, Paul, Frank Chiniquay; Families, Abraham, Bearspaw, Benjamin, Crawler, Chiniquay, Dixon, Daniels, Kootenay, Labelle, Lefthand, Mark, Mclean, Poucette, Powderface, Soldier, Stevens. We apologize for anyone we missed as he had many relatives.

Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Florence, his grandfather, Chief Walking Buffalo; brothers, McFarland (Martha), Stuart (Doris), Neil (Eunice) Paul Dixon Jr (Lily), Don (Margaret); Sisters, Ella, Mazie (George), Flora, Annie, Edna (Pete), Dorothy (Floyd), Doris (Billy); his children, Shannon, Stacey, Joseph, Elaine; niece Laura; grandchildren, Emma, Lennox, Joseph Jr, Arressa, Bridget and Jamie; nephews Keon and Keith; nieces Pricilla and Ruth; and great-granddaughter, Verneshia.

The family would like to thank Home Care Staff from Stoney Health Centre for the care he received.

Wake services will be held at the residence of Lorianne Dixon on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 and Thursday, July 27, 2023. A funeral service will be at the residence on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 12:00 pm. Burial will take place following the service at Dixon Hill Cemetery.
