As much as I grieve the loss of my son, Devon, I was fortunate — along with his mother and brother — to hold his hand as he passed away quickly and peacefully on Dec. 13. His brother put together a great slideshow and music tribute to Devon, which was showed to the 80-plus family and friends who attended his funeral Dec. 18. Thanks Devon for almost 29 years of love and adventure. Love, Dad xoxo

Although we hadn’t seen Devon in person for many years there was nothing that was going to stop us from making it to his memorial not even the cold, snowy and icy conditions. Devon was able to bring many people together that hadn’t been together for a long time. Although it was a cold day we all felt his warmth. It was obvious that Devon touched everyone around him. It was nice to hear about his influence through the eyes of his friends and family. It was a special day where we were all able to celebrate his life. We look forward to the day we meet again Devon. Devon, our thoughts were with you as you left your mortal body and became aware of the indescribable Love, Light, Music and Beauty embracing you as you arrived Home into the presence of your Heavenly Family; Grandmum Giles and Grandfather Hans among them. Time does not exist in Heaven. In what will seem no time at all you will be welcoming all of us Home. This glorious reunion is inevitable. No earthly imaginings have any significance. Eternal Happiness is Love. and Love is Eternal. You know that now. Grandma & Grandpa Giles

Devon, just a little note to say we love you and miss you and know you are at peace. Devon was loyal, generous and honest. He will be remembered for the many Christmas we shared. Devon’s love for children shined through when he met his cousin Shelby and squeezed her little chubby cheeks. It was a sad when Devon was returned to Heaven. Just knowing that we will all meet again comforts our hearts and souls.

The Giles family in Arizona continues to be very saddened by the passing of beloved Devon. Although physical distance may separate the family, know that in times such as this that the family is one in spirit. The family here was unified in delivering an outpouring of love and support to those loved ones closed to Devon. We were unified in sending our love to Mark, Christine, and Austin, and continue to do so by having you all in our on-going thoughts knowing the pain of losing a loved one does not easily diminish. We honor all those who contributed in so many ways to helping make Devon’s life so special to so many. We wish strength, peace, and hope to those most impacted by the loss of beloved Devon. This Sunday, July 13, 2014, seven months to the day after he passed away, we will unveil Devon’s headstone at his grave in Calgary. While I have healed a lot, in some ways it’s tougher now than when we lost him in late 2013 — as the reality of his loss sinks in fully. I remain so very grateful that Devon left us peacefully, surrounded by those who loved him. I was also comforted by the many friends and family who attended the funeral and burial to show respects and mourn along with us. We will always remember Devon and the fun, challenges and adventures we had together. Mark Giles Ottawa, Canada
