Derek David Simpson

Derek David Simpson passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025 at the age of 46 years.

Derek was born and raised in Calgary, where he also completed his high school education. During his school years, he served as a teacher's aide, signing for his classmates until a formal interpreter was provided.

In his early years, Derek worked at a bicycle repair shop and later held various jobs, including at a Christmas tree stand, a pet store, and doing snow removal, yard maintenance, and pet walking. No matter where he went, he made friends easily in every stage of his life.

Derek had a passion for collecting remote-controlled cars and enjoyed a wide range of outdoor activities, including horseback riding, swimming, camping, bike riding, fishing, and canoe trips. He also participated in a hunting and survival course and enjoyed attending wrestling matches, big wheel shows, and live animated performances at the Corral.

He was a fan of country music, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Smokey and the Bandit television shows. Above all, Derek cherished his family and his close bond with his second family - Sara, Brent, and Baby Georgia.

Derek is survived by his mother, Barbara Belhumeur; siblings, Shawna (Andy) Pearson, Garett Simpson Karmelle Brown (Steve); grandpa Robert Belhumeur; nephews, Isaiah, Sage Ocean, Jayden; aunts and uncles, Bill and Laura Guiboche, Karen Belhumeur, Bob Belhumeur (Sherry), Sharon and Rick Fortier, Derrick Belhumeur, Philip Simpson, Sharon Simpson (Larry), Victor Simpson, Alexander Simpson, George Simpson (Lynn), Franklin Simpson (Lori), and Wanda Simpson; and many, many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, David Simpson (1981); grandmother, Cecile Belhumeur; grandparents, George and Cecile Simpson; uncles, Arthur Simpson, and Edward Guiboche; cousins, Layla, Karly, and William.

A Funeral Service will be held for Derek at Pierson's Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 - 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
