Delmer Nicholas Yaskiw

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024 Delmer Yaskiw, beloved husband of Donna Yaskiw of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the age of 71 years.

Delmer Nicholas Yaskiw, son of Stephen Yaskiw and Mary Nychuk, was born on May 22, 1953 in Shoal Lake District Hospital, Shoal Lake, Manitoba. One of four children (Lorraine, Leonard, and Beverly), Del grew up on the family farm. 

Delmer moved to Calgary and graduated from Mount Royal College. Delmer met the love of his life, Donna Albert on April 1, 1975. They were married on June 14, 1980 in St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church, Calgary.

Delmer was a loving father to four beautiful children, Kathryn Richards (Jon), Nicholas Yaskiw (Shannon), Heather Foisy (Marc), and Nathan Yaskiw (Cassandra), and Grandfather to Isabel and Joel Richards, and Phoenix Foisy. Delmer was an active member of his community, his church, and the Knights of Columbus. Upon his retirement from Telus, Delmer and Donna hosted two Ukrainian immigrant families. 

His love of travel took him to many places. His favourite activities included snorkeling and exploring the streets of Rome. Delmer and Donna took frequent road trips, combining visits with family and professional sporting events. 

Delmer passed after a long battle with cancer. He was very grateful for his amazing team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre who supported him over the years. 

A service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4903 - 45 Street SW, Calgary, Alberta. A service and burial will take place Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. (CDT) at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church and Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Oakburn, Manitoba.
