In loving memory of Debbie Fisher, who passed away suddenly on May 7, 2024 at the age of 68 years. Debbie was the beloved mother of Anne Patterson (James) and Chris Patterson (Amy) and grandmother to August. She is survived by her children as well as brother Larry Fisher (Natalie), sister Tammie Fisher, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family in the Fisher-Lewis clan, whom she loved deeply and who offered her support and care over the years. She is predeceased by her parents, T. Edward (Ed) Fisher and Marguerite Annie Fisher (née McClure).
Born in Calgary, Debbie lived most of her life in Canmore and was devoted to the town and the Fisher-Lewis family’s history there. She supported several small family businesses in Canmore and Banff throughout her career as an administrator, and she spoke fondly of the years she spent working with her father, Ed, producing the Canmore Miner newspaper, which he founded.
However, Debbie found her passion and calling as a front-line volunteer and victim advocate with the Bow Valley Victim Services Association, offering support to women and families in crisis. She was also a long-time volunteer with the 878 Air Cadet Squadron, Girl Guides of Canada, and the Ralph Connor Memorial United Church. In 1992, she wrote a poem celebrating Ralph Connor’s contributions to Alberta, which was published in Sparrowgrass’ Treasured Poems of America.
Debbie was a talented writer and creative mind who was a student of the world around her. Her interests and hobbies varied widely, and she was always learning about something new: photography, aviation, illustration, journalism, languages, world history-the list goes on.
She will be dearly missed. The family takes comfort that she has joined her beloved parents and other close family members in heaven. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chris and Amy for their loving care and support in her final months.
A Graveside Service will be held for Debbie at Canmore Cemetery (1250 Paliser Trail, Canmore, AB) on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:00 am. A Celebration of her Life will be held immediately following at CanMore Together (717 - 9 street, Canmore, AB).
