David Vernon Hartman, affectionately known as "Vern," passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 87. Born on October 4, 1937, in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Vern lived a life dedicated to service, creativity, and the joy of craftsmanship. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Vern’s career included notable roles as the Mayor of Silverton, B.C., where he served the community with integrity and commitment. His dedication extended beyond politics, as he also spent time as a volunteer firefighter and worked in forestry. Throughout his life, Vern was celebrated for his creativity, kindness, and immense talent.
A true craftsman, Vern found joy in woodworking, particularly in wood carving. His passion led him to create delightful four-foot-tall bears, often adorned in jerseys of his favorite teams. He was particularly known for his whimsical renditions of Tweety Bird, Betty Boop & the forever loved Tasmanian Devil. Many can be seen throughout his property and that of his family and friends.
In addition to his woodworking skills, Vern was a gifted musician and keyboardist. He cherished every opportunity to gather with friends and family for musical sessions, where his talents resonated with warmth and joy. There was always so much laughter when everyone was able to come together to share a song or two.
Vern's legacy will continue through his beloved family. He is survived by his children, Janet Tremorin (Chris Keith), Shelley (Kevin Stone), and David (Elaine Kerr) Hartman. His spirit will also live on through his grandchildren, David Tremorin, Marcel Tremorin, Daniella Harris, Ceceila Pinette, and Beth Hoffman, as well as his great-grandchildren, Vaughan and Avery Harris, Jordan Pinette, and Katrina Hoffman.
Vern was preceded in death by his cherished mother, Anne Hartman; his father, James Hartman; and his beloved wife, Audrey "Beth" Hartman. He is remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends, whose lives he touched with his creative spirit and kind heart.
