David Cheyne

February 4, 1944 — November 8, 2025

Calgary, Alberta

On Saturday, November 8, 2025 David Cheyne, beloved husband, of Donna Cheyne of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at the age of 81 years.

Born on February 4, 1944, in Ottawa, Ontario, David spent his formative years in Montreal before embarking on a remarkable journey that would see him serve his community with distinction.

David began his distinguished career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, serving for four years before joining the Calgary Police Service in 1968. His dedication to public service spanned over two decades, culminating in his retirement in 1991. David’s commitment to protecting and serving others was a testament to his character, and he carried out his duties with kindness and integrity.

In 1986, David found the love of his life, Donna, and he embraced the role of stepfather to Robin. David's heart was especially full for his granddaughters, Aritee and Mikaela, who were the apples of his eye. His devotion to them was evident, as he took immense joy in watching them grow and thrive.

Throughout his life, David exemplified a kind, gentle, and generous spirit. Even in the face of great challenges, particularly his battle with Parkinson's disease for over 27 years, he remained a source of inspiration to those around him. Despite enduring significant health struggles, David faced each day with a quiet resilience, never complaining and always displaying a positive outlook that warmed the hearts of all who knew him.

A passionate sports enthusiast, David enjoyed playing golf until he could no longer do so. He found solace in watching sports on TV, particularly his favorite NFL football team, the Oakland Raiders.

David is survived by his devoted wife, Donna, who stood by his side for 40 wonderful years, his daughter Robin Danabassis of Calgary, and his cherished granddaughters, Aritee Danabassis (Nick Yeo) of Calgary and Mikaela Danabassis of Vancouver, British Columbia. He also leaves behind his grandchildren’s father, Petros Danabassis of Calgary, along with brothers-in-law Bill Madder of Calgary and Dave Madder (Lois) of Owen Sound, Ontario, sisters-in-law Sharon Madder and Heather Madder, both of Calgary, cousins Lesley Stekewich and Sandra Armstrong, and numerous other relatives and friends.

David was predeceased by his mother, Alberta Cheyne, in 2008. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Bow View Manor for the compassionate care they provided to David over the past three years.

While he is profoundly missed, David Cheyne’s legacy of love, strength, and unwavering kindness will forever remain in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. "Until we meet again Buddercup!"
