Darren Neil Henricks died suddenly at Peter Lougheed Centre on May 25, 2026, due to complications brought on by an aggressive stomach cancer. He is survived by his loving common-law spouse, Imelda Sabas, and his older brother, Nelson Henricks.
Darren was born in Radville, Saskatchewan, on July 11, 1967.
With his parents, Neil Henricks and Zelda Nelson, Darren and his big brother Nelson moved to Bow Island, Alberta, in 1969.
In 1971, the family moved to Calgary, Alberta. Darren maintained close ties to this city throughout his life, spending the best part of it in a cozy bungalow he purchased in the Forest Lawn neighbourhood.
Since his childhood, Darren had found comfort in music. While still a teenager, he took over his father's drum kit and learned to play it. He was inspired by drummers such as Neil Peart of Rush and Stewart Copeland of The Police. He later joined several music groups.
He was also passionate about cars and eventually purchased a 1967 Pontiac Firebird, which he spent many years patiently restoring. He was also an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan.
When his father, Neil, died in 2013 and his mother, Zelda, died in 2015, Darren built a new life with his life partner, Imelda Sabas. They were dedicated hikers, spending the summer months hitting the trails in the Rocky Mountains. They travelled frequently, visiting cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Montreal, and Singapore, but especially to Imelda's homeland in the Philippines, which Darren came to love deeply.
There, his life was filled with new experiences and a new family, who adopted him into their hearts. His family members in the Philippines are grieving his loss, as is his beloved partner Imelda, her sister Evelyn and family, and niece Roselie Anne.
"The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect. The way you live, the gifts that you give, In the fullness of time, it's the only return that you expect." The Garden by Rush.
