Calgary

Dave Maret passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026 at the age of 78 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Linda; five children, Don (Heather) Maret, of Corryton, TN, Kelly French, of Calgary, AB, Joshua (Melissa) Maret, of Lethbridge, AB, Nathan Maret, of Airdrie, AB, and Kathryn (Mathew) Komm, of Port McNeil, BC; ten grandchildren, Patrick (Meghan), Rachel (Sam), Aiden, Malachi, Caleb, Macie, Briar, Ezra, Zariyah, and Gunnar; one great granddaughter Adeline; sister Laurel Cooper, of Corvallis, OR; and many more family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Vivian.

Dave was born on December 21, 1947 in Laramie, Wyoming. Sadly, his father Donald Jay Kelly died in September of 1949 when Dave was not yet 2 years old. His mother married Raymond Eldon Maret in 1960 and Curtis David Kelly became Curtis David Maret. Ray was a geologist working for Husky Oil and that brought the family to Calgary in 1961. Dave was then blessed with two sisters, Vivian and Laurel. He attended Melville Scott Jr. High and Ernest Manning Sr. High. He then returned to Wyoming for a short time to attend Sheridan College. When he returned to Calgary he was waiting for the bus one day in July 1967 and that is when he met his sweetheart Linda Glock. They were both looking for summer jobs and started chatting. The rest is history, as they say. Linda finished her grade 12 year at Ernest Manning and then married Dave the month following her graduation. Dave worked a few jobs before ending up with the City of Calgary as a Business Tax Recovery Officer. He was with the city for 28 years but never really loved his job. He stuck it out though so he could provide for his family, because that was his priority. He and Linda have 5 children….Don, Kelly, Joshua, Nathan, and Kathryn (Katie). Dave was extremely proud of all his children. During this exciting journey Dave and Linda decided to be baptized and became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dave served diligently in numerous callings, but the one he liked best was being Bishop of his Ward, or Branch President. He loved the opportunity to help others through his service in the church.

Dave also loved fixing things, especially cars, and would have preferred to spend his working life doing that. He was the best handy man ever, and found nothing too challenging to try to fix. He also loved to do photography, mostly of rural type settings like pioneer scenes and old farm machinery. He had a great talent for writing. He was known for his sense of humour and his generosity and his unforgettable spirit. One thing he was especially good at was expressing his love for others. He never hesitated to say " I love you". His faith was strong and immovable. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Memorial Service will be held for Dave at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Willow Park Chapel (940 Acadia Drive SE, Calgary) on Friday, October 23, 2026 at 2:00 pm. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Dave to a charity of your choice.
