Connie Marie Craig (nee Heninger)

October 18, 1939 — February 25, 2024

Calgary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Connie Marie Craig at the age of 84 years. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024 with family by her side. Connie was born in Cardston, Alberta on October 18, 1939.

As the eldest child of what would become 11 children, she learned quickly about the responsibility of caring for others. As a child she enjoyed horseback riding, candy store visits, fishing trips, rock collecting, cow milking, turkey feeding, swimming and windmill climbing. As she grew older, she enjoyed learning piano and playing the organ in Sunday School. She loved skating on the ponds, dancing, singing, gymnastics and spending time with her friends.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her seminary teacher, Chesley Pierson, was a very influential person in her life. In 1958, she attended BYU and this is where she learned how to survive in the outside world. In 1960, she married Roy Alexander Craig at the Calgary South stake center. They honeymooned in Waterton lakes and Coeur d’Alene. Shortly after the marriage began, their first child Laura Lynn Craig was born in Calgary in 1961. Her second child Philip Roy Craig was born in 1963 in Calgary. She worked 17 years for Gulf Canada in the drafting department. She still talked about that job in the weeks prior to her passing. She absolutely loved working at Gulf Canada. She retired from Gulf in 1981 and became a full-time home maker. Her son Philip and his wife Liesbeth provided Connie and Roy with their first Grandbaby, Mitchell Roy Craig who was born in 1991.  Phil and Liesbeth again provided her with a second Grandbaby Colin Andrew Craig in 1998. She loved her Grandbabies to bits. She smiled every time she saw them. Her church calling was family history, which she was very passionate about. In her retirement years she would spend hours every day working on genealogy. She was also able to spend a lot of time learning to oil paint from her father Don. She truly cherished this one-on-one time with her father. Rest in peace now Mom, you served your family and friends well.

Connie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Laura Craig (Andre Merrifield); son, Phil (Liesbeth) Craig; grandchildren, Mitchell Craig, Colin Craig; siblings, Howard (Sharlene) Heninger, Alyce (Larry) Vernon, Lorraine (Gene) Boehme, Garry (Judy) Heninger, Rick (Denise) Heninger, Conrad, Sandra (Bill) Tilleman. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Alexander Craig; parents, Don and Beatrice Heninger; sisters, Karen Black, Evie Dresser; brother, Woodroe Heninger; sister-in-law, Tammy Heninger.
