Christel Else Fulgeri-Arulrajah, 79, passed away on December 21, 2019 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital.
Born Else Foerster in Witten Germany, she was the daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm Hans Foerster and Franziska Foerster.
Christel leaves to cherish her memory her husband Raja Arulrajah; two daughters, Nadine Murphy (Steve Walton) of Calgary, and Melanie Murphy (Steven Young); two grandchildren, Maria and David Young: and brother Gunter Foerster and his wife Brigitte Foerster. She was predeceased by her parents and past husband Giovanni (John) Fulgeri.
Christel was born in Witten Germany in 1940. She had many interesting stories about her family’s experiences in post war Germany. She emigrated to Canada 1n 1966, landing in Gander Newfoundland (which she described as landing at the end of the earth), with little knowledge of the English language. She learned quickly and completed courses in order to obtain the credentials to become a bookkeeper. After moving to Calgary, she worked for a number of years at Muttart Building Supplies where she made life long friends.
Christel was a devoted wife and mother. Christel loved to go dancing with Raja and especially liked the foxtrot and waltz. She enjoyed travelling, able to efficiently pack a suitcase on a moments notice, although her health issues in later years prevented her from venturing too far from home. Christel took pleasure in shopping, always happy to find a bargain. She also enjoyed a good buffet lunch in the company of friends.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Forest Lawn United Church (2236 35 St SE, Calgary) on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 2:00 pm.
