Catherine May Livingstone

Catherine (Cathy) May Livingstone passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, July 17, 2023 at the age of 69 years from metastatic thyroid cancer. Cathy was born on October 31, 1953 to Bert and Gladys Simmons in Dawson Creek, BC. She studied at Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in April of 1976, with a major in German and minor in French.

After graduation, she moved to Calgary where she met her future husband, Bob. They married in May of 1977 and went on to have five sons and a daughter. Cathy took great satisfaction in raising her children and found joy in being surrounded by her family. She and Bob maintained a large and beautiful garden and used it to instill a great work ethic in all of their children. Cathy loved to be out in nature. When she could, she would often go out to the mountains for a picnic, to hike, and to cross country ski. Bob and Cathy loved camping, canoeing and kayaking together.

At sixteen, Cathy was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had an unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ throughout her entire adult life. Throughout all life’s trials, nothing gave her more strength and comfort than the knowledge of the Savior and his love. She was a dedicated member of the church and was devoted to serving others in any way she could. Cathy spent most of her time in callings in the church serving with children in Primary and in Young Women’s. She genuinely loved building relationships with the youth and was a gentle and caring example to them all. She also enjoyed serving in Relief Society and associating with the sisters there.

Cathy is lovingly remembered by her husband, Bob; her children, Chris (Jill), Scott, Shawn (Emily), Robin (Jen), Trevor (Breanna), and Kirsten Livingstone; grandchildren, Kyle, Maren, Alec, Dawson, Avery, Lauren, Madeline, and Jack; she is also survived by her father, Bert Simmons; and siblings, Louise Arnott, Jim Simmons, Dan Simmons, and Janice Patton. Cathy is predeceased by her mother, Gladys Simmons.

A Funeral Service will be held for Cathy at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – Bow Valley Chapel (2526 – 24 Avenue NW , Calgary) on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 11:00 am. There will be a luncheon reception after the service in the cultural hall.
