Caroline Kiehlbauch (Nee Melnechuk)

Caroline Kiehlbauch passed away quietly and peacefully surrounded by her children at the Foothills Hospital on the morning of December 20, 2021 at the age of 96 years. She lived peacefully in her own home since the passing of her husband, Adolf David, in 1999. At 96.91666667 she fell down at home, got crumpled up with her walker, breaking both femurs, mangling her hip replacement & fracturing her pelvic bones. She said, “That’s enough…ready to go.” (A special thanks to the palliative care team at the Foothills Hospital who kept her comfortable.)

Her resiliency and capacity to live well, in her own home, COVID-free, in good health, and very much ‘mentally acute’ well into her 90’s is noted. Her church family may reflect fondly as founding members of the Mountainview SDA church…and friends in Springbank with curling and other community activities.

Caroline was a teacher, business owner, and mother…and may be remembered as the proprietor of Fairyland Daycare. with many Calgary children affectionately remembering their preschool years under their stewardship. Caroline was always supportive in work and play and enjoyed young people. Many well-wishers in Calgary were also aware of her capacities in evolving regulatory standards for the stewardship and care of children, and a president of the Alberta Daycare Association.

Both Adolf and Caroline were passionate about life and growing families. Active in the local community, they enjoyed working together, travelling, and generally doing stuff together. As well, they enjoyed engaging in community, charity and volunteer work in their retirement. A woman of kindness, generosity, and virtue, Caroline was blessed with a dignified passing that was peaceful and noble.

Caroline is survived by her four children; Eldene Colleen and Alexander (Ragenovich) of Boseman Montana, Sandra and James (Toms) of Calgary, Milton Ross of Calgary, and Twyla and Dave (Jackson) of Washington, including seven (7) wonderful grandchildren, and five (5) great-grandchildren.

A brief Memorial Service will be held for Caroline at the Calgary Central Seventh-day Adventist Church (1920 – 13 Avenue NW, Calgary) on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The event will be live-streamed through facebook and can be viewed by clicking
