On Wednesday, July 16, 2025 Bonnie Nahornick of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the age of 72 years.
Throughout her life, Bonnie dedicated herself to helping others. She provided unwavering care for her grandmother until her passing at the remarkable age of 102, showcasing her deep commitment to family. Bonnie also stood by her uncle during his courageous battle with ALS, offering love and support during a profoundly challenging time. Bonnie also devoted her time to her mother until her passing, exemplifying the essence of familial devotion.
Bonnie's spirit of service extended beyond her family. She contributed to the community by donating her hair numerous times to "Wigs for Kids," a noble cause that reflects her generous heart. This act earned her the cherished nickname "Bush Woman Bonnie" from her mother, Jan, a testament to her boldness and willingness to give of herself for the well-being of others.
In her professional life, Bonnie served as a Student Advisor at Athabasca University for many years, where she was known for her dedication to helping students navigate their academic journeys. She approached her role with the same passion and commitment that defined her personal life, making a significant impact on those she assisted. Additionally, Bonnie was actively involved with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE), advocating on behalf of her co-workers and fighting for their rights and well-being.
Bonnie is survived by her first cousins on her mother's side: Kim (Stan) Nowakowski, Warren (Trudy) Bozowski, Wayne Bozowski all of Medicine Hat, Alberta; her family on her father's side: Aunt Betty (Orest) Kisilevich, Aunt Beryl Nahorniak and first cousins Trudy, Gale (Leibel), Kenton (Deb), Gary (Brenda), Cinde (Gerit), Roger, Cheryl, Donald (Marilyn), Brent (Teresa), Brian (Susan).
Bonnie was predeceased by her mother Eugenia (aka Jan, Jennie) Nahornick (nee Bozowski), her father Dr. Boris Nahornick, and uncle Vic Borowski.
