Bienvenido Olona Viri

It is with great sadness that the family of Bienvenido 'Benny' Viri announces his passing on October 18, 2026, at the age of 93, at the Carewest George Boyack in Calgary, Alberta.

Benny was born on November 18, 1932, in Manila, Philippines. He lived a full and meaningful life devoted to his family, his faith, and helping others.

Benny worked as a Maintenance Supervisor in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 1975 to 1995. He then moved to Canada with his wife, Corazon (nee Amorzolo) He worked at the Earl Grey Golf Course until his retirement.

A man of strong faith, Benny enjoyed attending church every weekend. He also cherished opportunities to return to the Philippines to visit his children and grandchildren. Above all, family was at the centre of his life, and he took great pride in the generations that followed him.

Benny will be lovingly remembered by his six children, Tomas (Angelita) Viri, Victoria (Antonio) Grande, Divinia (Rogelio) Olivarez, Georgina (Tomas) San Agustin, Trinidad Viri and Bienvenido (Marilyn) Viri Jr.; 13 grandchildren, Marygay, Maryjoy, & Maryjean Viri, Shirley and John Paul Grande, Mercedez and John Moses Olivarez, John Carlo and Izabel San Agustin, John Kevin, John Nigel, Kimberly and Cameron Viri; and six great-grandchildren.  

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 75 years, Corazon; his father, Palmecio Viri; and his mother, Trinidad Viri.

Benny will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand. His love for his family and the many lives he touched will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

A Funeral Ceremony will be held at Pierson’s Funeral Service (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Saturday November 7, 2026 at 6:00pm with visitation beginning at 5:00pm. Livestream of the service will be made available.
