On Saturday, May 31, 2025 Bessie Kostynuik of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the age of 93 years.
Bessie was born on Saturday, May 21, 1932, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She was the beloved daughter of Pauline and Onufry Kostynuik.
Bessie exemplified dedication and passion throughout her diverse career. Her professional journey began in Saskatoon, where she contributed her talents to the Restaurant Supply Company. She subsequently expanded her horizons in Toronto, Ontario, working at CTV before venturing to Vancouver, British Columbia, to join Associated Engineers. Later, Bessie took her skills to Calgary, where she worked with Canada Safeway.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Bessie made a significant impact on her community. During her time in Saskatoon, she served as an instructor at the YMCA, offering a wide array of programs designed to empower and inspire girls.
In 1992, Bessie made the decision to move to Calgary, establishing new roots in a city that she would come to love. Her legacy of commitment, service, and nurturing will be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Bessie Kostynuik will be missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable life.
Bessie is survived by her sisters Molly Elstone of Calgary, Alberta, Olga Salewich of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and numerous other family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Pauline (nee Kalynka) and Onufry Kostynuik and her siblings Nick, George, Billy, Ann, Mary and Helen.
The will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place at Foothills Crematorium.
