Ben Sondergaard, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished uncle, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the age of 76 years, after living with Parkinson's for 17 years.
Born in Denmark, Ben immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of two, eventually making his home in Calgary, where he would build a life rooted in love and dedication. At 28, he married Kathy, his beloved partner in life, and together they raised two wonderful children, Josh and Camilla.
Ben spent his professional life working as a Purchaser in Calgary’s oil and gas industry, where his reliability and integrity were appreciated by colleagues and friends alike. Outside of work, Ben could often be found on the golf course, enjoying a round with friends and sharing the kind of jokes only a true “dad” could deliver — jokes that brought laughter and rolled eyes in equal measure.
Ben’s absence leaves a deep void, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and love — a life well-lived, and a man well-loved.
Ben is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy Sondergaard; son, Joshua (Lilian) Sondergaard; Camilla (Lockey) Price; 5 grandchildren, Rebekah, Arete, Noble, Ezri, and Eleni; sister, Lillian (Grant) Fiest; brother, Brian (Janey) Sondergaard. He was predeceased by his mother, Elin Marie Sondergaard (nee Jacobsen); father, Svend Sondergaard; and brother, Steven Sondergaard.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
