Barbara Ann Leggett passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 77 years.
Barbara was born on December 15, 1948, in Didsbury, Alberta, to Helen and Sidney Hall. From an early age, she was known for her gentle spirit, kind heart, and quiet compassion—qualities that remained with her throughout her life.
Service and sacrifice were part of Barbara’s family story. Her father was a proud veteran of the Second World War, and her grandfather served during both the Boer War and the First World War. This legacy of dedication and resilience helped shape Barbara’s deep sense of loyalty and love.
Barbara was also an explorer at heart, always seeking adventure, knowledge, and discovery. She contributed to historical research efforts in Alberta, particularly those focused on the origins and histories of Indigenous peoples who helped shape the land we now call home. Her curiosity and respect for history reflected her thoughtful nature and desire to better understand the world around her.
On February 27, 1971, Barbara married the love of her life, Barry. In 1974, guided by her deep love and devotion, Barbara travelled to Cyprus to be with Barry during his military service as an army mechanic. This act of courage and loyalty reflected the strength of her character and the depth of her commitment to her husband. Together, they built a life rich in love, partnership, and treasured memories.
Barbara had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, valued, and cared for. Whether through a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or simply her comforting presence, she brought light into the lives of those around her. She will be especially remembered for the beautiful handmade blankets she created—each one crafted with patience and love, and given as a lasting expression of her generosity and nurturing spirit.
Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found community and comfort at Forest Lawn United Church in southeast Calgary.
Barbara is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Barry; her godson, Lans Lee; her nieces, Shirley Ripley and Colleen (Vince) Ripley; her nephews, Phillip Ripley of Surrey, British Columbia, and Paul M. Leggett (Gayle) of Victoria, British Columbia; and her great-nephew, Curtis. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gene and Albert.
Barbara will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
A life so gently lived, and a heart so deeply loved, will never be forgotten.
