Barbara Evelyn Hopkins

Barbara Evelyn Hopkins (nee Martell) of Calgary passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at the age of 92.  

Barb married Bob Hopkins in November of 1953. They lived and raised their three children in Calgary. Her passions included owls, crafting and later in life volunteering at the Forest Lawn 55+ Seniors Centre. Barb always loved a party, especially when the family got together, and she will be remembered for her ever-cheerful spirit, fantastic smile and loving hugs.  

Barb will be lovingly remembered by her family, including her daughter Terrie-Lynn Smeltzer, son Douglas “Doug” Hopkins, daughter-in-law Shirley Hopkins; grandchildren, Rosemarie “Rose” Smeltzer, Lynndsay Smeltzer, Christine Hopkins, Mathew Hopkins; sister-in-law Ann Martell; nieces and nephews Darrell Martell (Anna), Rafael Ford (Melissa), Daralee Momm (Bryan), Dawneen Purdy (Todd), Ken Martell (Lorraine), Don Martell (Elaine), Todd Martell (Florence), and Laurine Martell; together with many cousins, extended family and friends.  

Barb was predeceased by her mother Sarah Ann Melissa Anderson, father Earl Delano Martell; husband Robert “Bob” Hopkins; son William “Bill” Hopkins; son-in-law Terry Smeltzer; brothers Clayton Martell and Robert “Bob” Martell, sister-in-law Margaret Martell and brother-in-law Walter Hopkins.

 A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday September 14, 2024 at Pierson's Funeral Home (4121 - 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) at 12:00pm.

After the service, there will be a reception at Pierson's Funeral Home followed by graveside inurnment at Rockyview Garden of Peace Cemetery (243208 Garden Road SE, Calgary, AB)

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Prince of Peace Manor for their friendship and care of Barb during her time there.
