Audrey Elaine Sykes (Nee Clifton)

Our dear mother, Audrey Sykes, passed away in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the age of 86 years. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Percy (2018). She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Elaine, Chris, Jane (Jim) and pre-deceased by Steven (2022) and Douglas (1982). Audrey was very proud of her nine grandchildren: Mike, Kevin, Nathan, predeceased by Christopher (1997), Erin, Makayla, Anne, Jimmy, and Kristi as well as thirteen great-grandchildren: Mykena, Jayden, McKayla, Lexi, Steven, Dreia, Ronan, Nathan, Ryan, Taylor, Oliver, Jackson and soon-to-arrive Kirby. She will be missed by her sister Doreen (Wilf) and sister-in-law Joan (Pat) as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Eileen Clifton; her mother and father-in-law Bernard and Frances Sykes; and her brother Malcolm and sister-in-law June.

Audrey was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England on June 7, 1937. Audrey and Percy grew up on the same street and were married in 1958. In 1959 they immigrated to Canada and settled in Calgary. Audrey worked as a homemaker while the children were growing up. In 1972, the family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Audrey was very active in the church and held a variety of callings over the years including serving two missions in England. Audrey and Percy were proud owners of Calgary Instant Printing where they worked side by side for eight years. Together they traveled the world and enjoyed meeting new people. Her family will always remember Sunday dinners of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with delicious pies and cakes for dessert. Audrey was known for always being willing to help others and enjoyed her weekly trips to the Calgary temple.

Audrey’s family thanks the many people that provided medical care, with a special thank you to the palliative care team at Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks. Most importantly, thank you to the many friends and family that reached out to her and her family with their memories, prayers and well wishes.
