Annie Robertson
November 25, 1925 — April 3, 2023
Annie Robertson passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023 at the age of 97 years.
Annie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Isabelle Sladek and Dale Robertson; two grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Studer and Jimmie (Alysha) Sladek; seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Kaylee, Ella, Alivia, Will, James and Ashton; sister, Sonia Turner; brother-in-law, Andrew (Agnes) Robertson; along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Warrender; her parents, Kaspar and Anastasia Kulyk; son-in-law, Jim Sladek; and eight siblings, Rudolph, Olive, Mary, Tony, Euhnia, Rose, Helen and John.
Annie was born on the family farm in Cereal, AB. At the age of 18, she began teaching. Just over 10 years later, she met Warrender. At the time, she was teaching at Beaupre Elementary. Then in 1952, Annie and Warrender married in Banff. The young couple lived for awhile in Ghost Dam, AB where Warrender worked. Eventually, they moved to Calgary where Annie taught at many schools in the Calgary Board of Education. Upon retirement, Annie and Warrender loved to travel. Overseas, they’ve visited Australia, England, Ireland, Scotland and France. They put many, many miles on their motor home driving all through Canada and the States.
Annie was very involved in her community. The highlight of her volunteering experience was when she volunteered for the Olympics in the Saddledome where she had opportunity to meet some of the athletes. She was a big sports fan. She especially enjoyed football and hockey. She liked to think herself the ‘Stampeder’s Greatest Fan’. Her love of sports extended to (probably more especially) watching her grandkids play their respective sports.
Annie loved music, although couldn’t carry a tune. She also loved dancing and all animals. Over the years, she’s owned many cats, dogs and birds. Those most dear to her heart were her spaniels, Curly and Goldie. Annie was tenacious, very blunt and to the point. She would tell you what she thought whether you wanted to hear it or not. She definitely did things her way! Most importantly, Annie loved her family and having get-togethers at her home.
A Memorial Service will be held for Annie at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
