Anna Enns

July 24, 1933 — November 3, 2022

We are sad to announce the passing of Anna Enns of Calgary on November 3, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

Anna was born in Winkler, Manitoba and raised in Morden. She attended both Kronsgart and Cheval Schools in her younger years. In 1953, she moved to Winnipeg to work at the Misericordia Hospital and took some training in nursing to upgrade her education. She met William (Bill) Enns working in Winnipeg, and followed him to Calgary where they married in 1959, and settled in the community of Knob Hill. During these early years of marriage, she enrolled in additional nursing courses and received her nursing license, working at the Holy Cross Hospital for 3 1/2 years after that. The Enns family home in Calgary became a welcoming destination for many family members and friends who visited and enjoyed her hospitality at a moment’s notice.

Bill and Anna were blessed with two children, Daniel William Enns, born June 29, 1963 and Deborah Anne Enns, who was born on May 28, 1964.

Anna is survived by her five grandchildren Karlene Enns (Corey), Andrew Mancini (Alana) and their daughter Lillian, Jeslyn Mancini and her daughter Amelita-Rose, Kashetin White and Kadyn White. Anna came from a large Manitoba farming family and is survived by the following siblings: Susan Friesen, Mary Penner, Henry Peters (Lydia), Tina Holenski, Fred Peters (Gloria), Cornie Peters (Lynda), Benjamin Peters and Trudy Derksen (Dave); two additional sisters-in-law: Esther Peters and Barb Peters; and many dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She had a special place in her heart for her nephew Brad Peters who cared for her in her final days up to the day she passed.

As well as being predeceased by her husband Bill in 2002, and both of her children Debbie and Danny, Anna is predeceased by her siblings Jacob Peters, Peter Peters, William Peters, John Peters and Abe Peters; and in-laws Nettie Peters, Lydia “Lyd” Peters, Abe Friesen, Ruth Peters, Dave Penner, Joe Holenski and Barbara Peters.

Anna enjoyed knitting, sewing and liquid embroidery. She was an active participant in the Shepherd King Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School. Anna was very active in her children’s lives and participated in many Scout and Girl Guide activities with them. In her later years, she loved puzzles and completed many that were over 1000 pieces. Anna’s greatest devotion was to her family and her God.

A joint service will be held for Anna Enns and her son Daniel “Danny” Enns, who passed away October 15, 2022 at Pierson’s Funeral Service (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 11:00 am. The service will be live streamed at
